SPIRIT FILLED LIFE

When you received Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit came to live within you.The Holy Spirit makes it possible for every Christian to live a full and joyful life.

The Bible tells us about the Holy Spirit:

  1. The Holy Spirit is God ( Acts 5: 3-5 ).
  2. The Holy Spirit lives in every person who has received Jesus Christ as Saviour.
  3. The Holy Spirit gives us power to live Christian Life (Romans 8: 11).
  4. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to witness for Christ (Acts 1: 8).
  5. The Holy Spirit is more powerful than any other spirit (I John 4: 1-4).

The Bible tells us about two kings of people ...

I. THE PERSON WITHOUT CHRIST

The Holy Spirit does not live in a person who has not received Jesus Christ as his Saviour ( Ephesians 1: 13). The Bible says: “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the Word of Truth, the Gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit.”

  1. Jesus is outside the persons life.
  2. The person is on the throne. He rules his own life.
  3. This person is under judgement of God.

II. THE CHRISTIAN

When we receive Jesus Christ as our Saviour, at the moment of new birth the Holy Spirit comes to live in us (Romans 8: 9). To be Spirit filled means to allow Jesus Christ to control and lead us. We trust in His strength, not our own.

  1. Jesus Christ lives within person
  2. Jesus Christ is on the throne and in control of the person`s life.
  3. The Christian now lives to serve Christ.

When we let Jesus control our lives, we want to please God. We want to read the Bible and pray. We desire to tell others about Christ and to be with Christians. Our lives show the fruits of the Spirit more and more. These things will be true in the Christian`s life depending on how much he trust the Lord with every part of his life and how long he has had Christ in his life.

The Spirit filled Christian is not perfect. However he is trusting God to work in his life and to use his life. When a Christian is not Spirit filled, he is a ....

SELF - CENTERED CHRISTIAN

The self-centered Christian cares more about pleasing himself than about pleasing God. The self-centered Christian is like a baby who wants his own way - just like the man of the world. He trust his own strenght to live the Christian life.

The life of the self-centered Christian may show some of these things: Often he:

  • does not fully trust God
  • disobeys God`s Word
  • does not help others come to Christ
  • has a poor prayer life
  • has little intrest in the Bible
  • has sinful thoughts

He may feel guilty, be jealous, worry, be discouraged, judge others, be angry.

Notice that ....

  1. Jesus Christ is still his saviour and is present in his life.
  2. The Christian is now on the throne controlling his own life.
  3. The Holy Spirit is still in this Christians` life, but does not have full conteon.

The self-centered Christian sometimes wants to please God but often finds he cannot  do what is right. He is trusting his own strenght, which is not strong enough. As a result, the self-centered Christian does not live fukll and joyful life. He often lives a defeated life. Sometimes he does not even act as a Christian.

Which kind of person are you ?

WHICH KIND OF PERSON WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE?

We became Christians by placing our trust in Jesus Christ as our Saviour. We also are filled with the Holy Spirit by faith.

YOU CAN BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT RIGHT NOW

If you want Dad’s Spirit to direct your life and give you power to live ...

  1. You must want the Holy Spirit to fill you (Matthew 5: 6) Christ will not push His way onto throne of your life.
  2. Confess your sins. Agree with God that you have sinned against Him. Thank Him for forgiving you because of Christ’s death for you. (John 1:9) Turn away from your sins and choose to obey God.
  3. Give the throne of your life to Jesus Christ (Romans 6:13)

To live the Spirit- filled life, you must be willing let Jesus Christ control everything you do. Let Him control your money, your free time, your work, and your relationship with your family and your friends.

TRUST GOD TO FILL YOU WITH HIS HOLY SPIRIT

God will fill, control and empower you with His Holy Spirit if you trust Him to do so. You can be sure of this because the Bible tells us of: His Command: “Do not get grunk with wine, which will only ruin you ; instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.”   ( Ephesians 5: 18 )

It is God’s will for all Christians to be filled with the Holy Spirit. His Promise: “We have courage in God’s presence because we are sure that He hears us if we ask Him for anything that is according to His will. He hears us whenever we ask Him; and since we know that is true, we know also that He gives us whatever we ask from Him.” ( I John 14, 15 )

Since God’s Word, the Bible commands us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, we know it is God’s will. Therefore, you can be sure that God will fill you with His Holy Spirit when you trust Him to do so. God promises to answer those requests that are according to His Will.

WE ARE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT BY FAITH

One way you can show your faith is by prayer. You may want to pray like this: “Lord Jesus, I have been controlling my life. I agree with You that this is sin. I turn away from this sin. Jesus, please take control of my life. I want to obey you. Lord jesus, thank You for forgiving me. I now trust you to fill me with Holy Spirit. Thank You for filling me as You promised.”

Would you ask God to comtrol you? Would you like to pray this prayer right now?

HOW TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

Did you ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit? Do you know now that you are filled with the Holy Spirit? You can know that you are filled because of God’s command: “But be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5: 18) and His promise in (I John 5: 14,15)

Some days you will fill very close to God. Other days, your feelings may tell you that you are far from God. Remember that our feelings change very often. The world around us can make them change. We must trust God`s Word, not our feelings.

Every day you can experience God’s love and forgiveness.

The Holy Spirit will continue to show you areas of your life that He wants to change. This will happen as you walk with the Lord and desire to please Him. When you have a thought, word, or action that displeases God, thank Him for forgiving your sins because of Christs` death on the cross. Trust His love and forgiveness and continue to have fellowship with Him. The Holy Spirit never leaves the life of Christian.

However, you must keep on choosing to let Him control your life. Every time you take again control of your life through sin, disobeying God in thought, word or action, BREATHE SPIRITUALLY. The phisical body get rid of impure air by breathing out

Then the pure air can fill it. In the same way SPIRITUAL BREATHING lets you be cleansed from your sins and once again filled with God`s Holy Spirit.

To again be filled with the Spirit:

  1. Exhale - Confess your sin: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I JOHN 1: 9
  2. Thank Him for his forgiveness and turn away from doing the sin.

  3. Inhale - Ask Jesus to take again the throne of your life
  4. Trust the Holy Spirit to fill you again. Remember the command of Ephesisns 5: 18 and the promise of I John 5: 14, 15.

BREATHE SPIRITUALLY

Every time the Holy Spirit shows you sin and you will have a joyful and victorious life that honours God. Let the Holy Spirit keep controlling your life.

LIVING THE SPIRIT - FILLED LIFE

As you continue growing in Jesus Christ, God will continue to change your life. As you let the Holy Spirit lead and control your life every day:

  1. Your life will show the fruit of the Spirit more and more ( Galatians 5: 22, 23)
  2. Your prayers will be effective ( James 5: 16 )
  3. Your understanding of the Bible will increase ( II Timothy 3: 16, 17 )
  4. You will have God`s power to witness ( Acts 1: 8 )
  5. You will have God`s power to defeat temptation and sin ( I Corinthians 10: 13 )

Trust God and His promises in the Bible.

A Christian can only live the Spirit-filled life by faith.

THE CHURCH  IS  IMPORTANT

When logs are together, they burn brightly. Put one of the logs on the cold ground and its fire begin to go out. In the same way it will be very hard for you to live Christian life by yourself. It is important that you join other people who have received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
